Learn about the entire AWS storage suite and the latest services and features. You will hear from AWS experts on services, solutions, and architectures related to data migration, hybrid architectures, backup and archive, data lakes, and storage for business applications.
The following AWS Storage services will be covered over the two days:
Amazon Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3) | Amazon Elastic File System (EFS) | Amazon Elastic Block Store (EBS) | AWS Storage Gateway | AWS DataSync | AWS Snow Family | AWS Transfer for SFTP | CloudEndure | FSx for Windows File Server | FSx for Lustre | AWS Backup
This event is free to attendees. Please register to secure your seat.
This event is most suitable for IT managers, storage administrators, database administrators, and developers. It's recommended that you have a basic understanding of cloud storage before attending this event.
Please make sure to bring your laptop in order to participate in workshops, and make sure you have an active AWS account. To successfully complete the workshops at this event, you will need an AWS account to which you have Administrative access. This should be an account suitable for testing – use of production accounts is highly discouraged. Additionally, the account should be validated by AWS, with access to all AWS resources.

Amazon S3 is designed first and foremost to protect your data. Attend this session to hear about the different management tools you can use to restrict access to sensitive objects stored across your data lake. Learn how to configure finely-tuned access policies with resource-based policies and define user access policies with AWS Identity and Access Management. Also learn how to use S3 Block Public Access, a feature that helps S3 customers enforce a “no public access” policy for an individual bucket, group of buckets, or an entire account. We also review the different encryption options available to S3 data lake customers.

Amazon S3 provides a number of different settings to help you secure your data, controls to ensure that those settings remain in place, and features to help you audit all of the above. In this hands-on workshop, we walk you through these different capabilities of Amazon S3, presenting scenarios to help you apply them for different security requirements.

If you want to start using cloud storage, that often means migrating your data (and applications) into AWS, or building hybrid cloud storage architectures. We’ll cover the key services you should consider for moving your data and accessing it from on-premises to support your key workloads. We will discuss when to use AWS DataSync, the AWS Snow family, AWS Storage Gateway, AWS Transfer for SFTP, and CloudEndure.
Level: 200
The prospect of moving data workloads to the cloud can be daunting. So, how can you make sense of the array of tools, protocols, and mechanisms available to move data into AWS? We’ll look at the best practices for online and offline data transfer including the details of using the Snowball product family, and you will also get hands-on practice with AWS DataSync and AWS Storage Gateway.
Level: 300
In this session, we focus on best practices for AWS block and file storage when supporting business-critical applications (like SAP HANA, Oracle RAC, Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL, Cassandra, and home directories). We will discuss migrating your workload data, selecting volumes or file systems, maximizing performance, and designing for durability and availability. We will talk about how to optimize for cost to ensure that your lift-and-shift project is a success.
Level: 200
Do your applications demand the highest performance from your storage systems? Come learn how to achieve peak performance from Amazon EBS, Amazon EFS, and Amazon S3. You will learn how to effectively use these services distributed designs, performance features, and the API best practices to meet any applications high performance storage requirements.
Level: 300
AWS Backup offers a centralized, managed service to perform backup, restore, and policy-based retention tasks across AWS services. In this session, we will detail how AWS Backup was built to help you simplify and automate backup for different services, from EBS to EFS to DynamoDB, without the overhead of building and maintaining custom scripts. We will also go into detail on options to help you increase security, demonstrate internal compliance, and reduce costs, including lifecycling older backups to cold storage and defining clear Backup-specific access controls.
Level: 200
Come learn how to make cloud-based backup and recovery even easier. In this hands-on workshop, we’ll show you how to perform on-demand backups across AWS resources; how to create backup schedules, including the start time, frequency, and window, across different services; how to lock down your backup vault to ensure that production DBAs cannot destroy your backups; and finally, how to perform a selective restore.
